Judge George Patrick Smith reserved sentencing for the leaders of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) First Nation in northwestern Ontario on Friday, January 25, 2008, in Thunder Bay. A packed courtroom heard seven hours of testimony - much of it a brutal cross examination of Chief Donny Morris, carried out by the Platinex lawyer. The community is facing stiff fines and jail for trying to protect their traditional territory from mining exploration. The KI web site carries up to the minute information and analysis. The attached article by Rachel Ariss in Wawatay News, "Ontario needs to treat First Nations as partners" sets out the case.
