Environmental Organizations Raise Concerns About Changes to Federal "Comprehensive Study" Environmental Assessments

The federal government is attempting to arbitrarily limit the length of federal comprehensive study environmental assessments - and in doing so, once again short circuiting the upcoming Parliamentary review of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, due to start this fall. That is the proper place to consider such changes, with a full opportunity for public participation, taking a thorough look at the changes needed to environmental assessment - not just making piecemeal changes that will result in weaker environmental assessment and poorer decisions. MiningWatch Canada was one of of seven other national and regional conservation groups to join West Coast Environmental Law in writing to the government to object.
