Until June, Canada had a means for investigating multinationals accused of human rights violations abroad.

But in mid-June, Prime Minister Mark Carney eliminated the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE), a corporate watchdog.

The CORE allowed affected communities to file cases for investigation into allegations of human rights violations by Canadian companies abroad. From Namibia to Pakistan, some communities saw this as a lifeline for issues that might otherwise never see the light of day.
