A message from the Sandy Pond Alliance
IT’S CHRISTMAS – GIVE A GIFT TO YOUR GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: HELP SAVE SANDY POND
Owing to a loophole (Schedule 2) in the Canada Fisheries Act, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Environment and Conservation have given permission to Vale, a Brazilian Mining Corporation, to dump hundreds of thousands of tonnes of toxic wastes into Sandy Pond in Long Harbour, Newfoundland. The destruction of this large pristine water body with a magnificent trout population is being allowed to bolster corporate profits. Sustainable development cannot be based on such environmental destruction. These deals have no place in Newfoundland and Labrador or Canada.
The Sandy Pond Alliance, a group of private citizens, has launched a legal challenge to nullify Schedule 2 and prevent the destruction of lakes, ponds, rivers and streams. Your gift will go directly to the Sandy Pond Alliance to support their legal challenge. This action involves commitment, effort and dedication to our province and country.
Be brave. Join us. It’s a David and Goliath encounter. Support the little guy.
Somewhere the destruction must stop. Let it be here in Newfoundland & Labrador.
Sometime the destruction must stop. It’s time.
Please help support for our legal challenge!
