(Panama City) The Supreme Court declares that Law 9 of February 26, 1997-which approved the contract between the State and mining company Sociedad Minera Petaquilla S.A.- is ​unconstitutional ​as a result from the lawsuit and action submitted by CIAM (The Environmental Advocacy Center) in 2009.

Indigenous District Council Rejects Shoddy Environment and Social Impact Assessment Proposed Mining by Canadian Company on Marudi Mountain Threatens our Sacred Sites and Rights

(South Rupununi, Guyana, Sept. 21, 2018) Marutu Taawa (Marudi Mountain) sits deep in Wapichan territory in the South Rupununi, Guyana, and holds historical, cultural, spiritual, and biological significance for us. The stories that we Wapichan know of Marutu Taawa, however, are not ones we usually hear in the news. Instead, we hear news about the amount of gold being discovered at Marudi by the Canadian mining company Guyana Goldstrike, which operates through its local subsidiary, Romanex Guyana.

Criminalization of the Aymara People - Supreme Court Will Decide on Aduviri Case on October 5th.

(Puno, Cochabamba, Ottawa, Washington) On Monday September 17th at 0900, a hearing took place at the Supreme Court in Lima, Peru to analyze the case of Walter Aduviri, the last Aymara spokesperson charged in relation to the case known as the Aymarazo. The Court must decide whether or not to annul the 7-year sentence against him.

(Ottawa) Grievous violence continues to be inflicted on local men and women by private mine security and police guarding Barrick Gold’s North Mara gold mine in northwestern Tanzania. There have been no criminal prosecutions, and the grievance process set up by the company to provide compensation to the victims is deeply inadequate, finds a new report.
