MiningWatch Canada is joining Indigenous and environmental groups in calling for a moratorium on mining development in Ontario's "Ring of Fire" until protection plans for the region’s sensitive wetlands and watersheds are in place and access to clean water, housing, and health services have been secured for all upstream and downstream communities.

Environmental Groups In Court To Defend Federal Environmental Law from Attack by Government of Alberta

(Unceded Algonquin Anishinaabe Territories [Ottawa, Ontario]) This week, the Government of Alberta is challenging the new federal Impact Assessment Act (IAA) (formerly Bill C-69) in the provincial Court of Appeal.

MiningWatch Canada, Nature Canada, and Environmental Defence Canada - represented by the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA) and West Coast Environmental Law - are intervening in the hearings to defend environmental protections. CELA is also representing itself.
